OrgPlus 8 - Dates and Formulas

Summary:

OrgPlus now supports date calculations in formulas. Below are a few examples of date calculations. More detailed information is available in the OrgPlus 8 User Guide.

Procedure:

The following procedure is an example of how to calculate years with the company based on a start date.

1. Create a new blank project (Select New… from the File menu) or open an existing project.
2. Select Define Fields from the Data menu.
3. Click Add.
4. Name the new field Start Date and set the field type to Date
5. Click Add.
6. Name the new field Years with Company and set the field type to Formula. The Formula dialog is displayed.
7. Select the Function Year.
8. Select the Argument type Constant and set the Argument to TODAY.
9. On the second row, select the + operator and the field Start Date.



10. Click OK to complete the formula definition.
11. Click OK to exit the Define Fields dialog.
12. Click Yes to add the fields to the displayed chart.
13. Typing a start date into any box in your chart will automatically display the number of years an employee has been with the company.



The following procedure is an example of how to calculate the next review date (six month later) date based on the last review date.

1. Create a new blank project (Select New… from the File menu) or open an existing project.
2. Select Define Fields from the Data menu.
3. Click Add.
4. Name the new field Last Review Date and set the field type to Date
5. Click Add.
6. Name the new field Next Review Date and set the field type to Formula. The Formula dialog is displayed.
7. Select the Function Equals.
8. Select the field Last Review Date.
9. On the second row, select the + operator and the argument type Date (Months). Next type the value 6 into the argument entry box on the second row.



10. Click OK to complete the formula definition.
11. Click OK to exit the Define Fields dialog.
12. Click Yes to add the fields to the displayed chart.
13. Typing a last review date into any box in your chart will automatically calculate a next review date that is 6 months after the last review date.
